Film Review: Aladdin - Live Action

Directed by Guy Ritchie delivers a shining, shimmering, and splendid world even when the CGI, frames, and cuts aren’t perfect.
This is one of the most beloved films by the 90’s kids. I know everyone expects to see the same thing but with real characters but let me tell you Ritchie make some changes that work so well in this new installment. Aladdin opens May 23 almost everywhere around the globe.
We have the basic plot with Aladdin (Mena Massoud) the poor boy falling in love with Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) and a dark turn gives Aladdin the chance to get what he wants with the lamp.
This version brings two characters with different ethnic and traits, that’s something we should highlight from the previous one. Another thing I loved about this new version is Jasmine (Naomi Scott) she definitely has a more important and powerful role. We see her facing and not accepting Agrabah's male-dominated hierarchy which is very relevant and adds a strong message about equality with the Beautiful song speechless. Plus we have her maid and best friend Dalia (Nasim Pedrad). I have to admit she is a new character that has become one of my favorites from this film. Dalia will make you laugh big time and she will also touch your heart.
Aladdin is our favorite guy who steals what he can with a charming smile alongside Abu, his trusted friend. Abu is still very naughty ladies and gentlemen.
The Genie (Will Smith) is going to surprise and I must say he is the reason, I love this film and why I wanted to see it. We read so many bad comments about Will Smith and this blue version that somehow most of you are disappointed and don’t want to even watch it but there’s no surprise that Will really was living for this. He gave his own twist to this genie and the magic just flow with it. Williams was and still is the best Genie ever but I’m happy to say Smith did a pretty good job even though the CGI was failing.
The Genie has most of the songs under his belt and is amazing and we also get to see a really romantic twist. Lago (the parrot) is more dark, sinister, and evil in this version but unfortunately, that makes Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) looks cute comparing to the parrot.
The characters have better development and we can see that screenwriters worked in them giving them more authenticity.
There are new songs that fit perfectly to the film and well-made choreographies. The costumes and dances are just beautiful and all the sets are splendid to the point you forget they are in the pre-made world.
Overall, besides Jafar being a weak villain, the disappointed CGI and some other technical mistakes like framing, cuts, and that speed effect that makes things seem unrealistic. Aladdin is ready to take you in its magic carper to become one of this new generation classic and will definitely take you in a ride back to a dazzling place from your childhood.

Esta es una de las películas más queridas por los niños de los 90. Sé que todos esperan ver lo mismo pero con personajes reales, pero déjame decirte que Ritchie hace algunos cambios que funcionan tan bien en esta nueva entrega. Aladdin estara en cines el 23 de mayo en casi todo el mundo.
Tenemos la trama básica con Aladdin (Mena Masud), el pobre niño que se enamora de la Princesa Jasmine (Naomi Scott) y un giro oscuro le da a Aladdin la oportunidad de obtener lo que quiere con la lámpara.
Esta versión trae dos personajes con diferentes características étnicas y, eso es algo que debemos resaltar. Otra cosa que me encantó de esta nueva versión es que Jasmine (Naomi Scott) definitivamente tiene un papel más importante y poderoso. La vemos enfrentada y no aceptando la jerarquía dominada por los hombres de Agrabah, que es muy relevante y agrega un fuerte mensaje sobre la igualdad con la hermosa canción sin palabras. Además, tenemos a su criada y mejor amiga Dalia (Nasim Pedrad). Debo admitir que es un nuevo personaje de mis favoritos de esta película. Dalia te hará reír a lo grande y también tocará tu corazón.
Aladdin es nuestro chico favorito que roba lo que puede con una encantadora sonrisa junto a Abu, su amigo de confianza. Abu sigue siendo damitas y caballeros muy traviesos.
El Genio se va a sorprender y debo decir que es la razón por la que amo esta película y por qué quería verla. Leímos tantos comentarios negativos sobre Will Smith y esta versión azul que, de alguna manera, la mayoría de ustedes están decepcionados y ni siquiera quieren verlo, pero no es de extrañar que Will realmente estaba disfruntado esto. Le dio su propio toque a este genio y la magia simplemente fluye con él. Williams fue y sigue siendo el mejor genio de todos los tiempos, pero me complace decir que Smith hizo un buen trabajo a pesar de que el CGI estaba fallando.
El genio tiene la mayoría de las canciones en su repertorio y es increíble, y también podemos ver un toque realmente romántico de este personaje un giro muy bonito. Lago (el loro) es más oscuro, siniestro y malvado en esta versión, pero desafortunadamente, eso hace que Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) se vea lindo en comparación con el loro.
Los personajes tienen un mejor desarrollo y podemos ver que los guionistas trabajaron en ellos dándoles más autenticidad.
Hay nuevas canciones que encajan perfectamente con la película y coreografías bien hechas. Los disfraces y los bailes son simplemente hermosos y todos los sets son espléndidos hasta el punto de olvidar que están en un mundo prefabricado.
En general, además de que Jafar es un villano débil, el CGI decepcionado y algunos otros errores técnicos como el encuadre, los cortes y el efecto de velocidad que hace que las cosas parezcan poco realistas. Aladdin está listo para llevarte en su mágica alfombra y convertirtese en uno de los clásicos de esta nueva generación y definitivamente te llevará de regreso a un lugar deslumbrante de tu infancia.
