I’m not into musicals at all if these don’t come from Disney but ROCKETMAN is not just one of the best films I have watched this year, it’s one of the best Musicals of the year and all times! We have to thank this to Elton John’s greatest hits, Taron Egerton amazing vocals and performance, and Fletcher enthusiasm for musical.
Taron shines in this film showing us he’s a threat to any good looking face in Hollywood but the real star and who I clap to is the Dexter Fletcher who delivers from frame to frame a magnificent masterpiece of storytelling that blends magically together with visuals, production design, choreography, and prominent storytelling.
This dazzling rock opera is very well made and they make reference to the art history of the life of Sir Elton John. Through frame to frame, a lot of creativity and imagination is on display and my favorite part of it is how director Fletcher did an excellent job of showing how time, fame, drugs, alcohol, prescriptions, and depression were taking over Elton’s life without slowing the film down with subtitles or awkward transitions.
Now talking about Elton’s sexuality this film wasn’t afraid of showing how he figured it out and how he falls in love for the very first time. The intensity of the scenes might take some by surprise as they are stronger than we are used to seeing but it was also portrayed in a very artistic way. As the film goes on we see how the substance abuse, a broken heart, and depression took over and it is actually so magical that it is going to give you the chills.
The cast is amazing and memorable. I’m sure once the film reaches the second act you are going to hate the negligent father (Steven Mackintosh) and a self-absorbed and motherless (Bryce Dallas Howard) who blames him son for her own bad decisions and I have to mention that even if her age doesn’t seem to change it isn’t that notable as the story-line and plots are so strong and well delivered. You also get to love and feel sorry for Reggie (Matthew Illesley, then Kit Connor). Reggie only finds love and support in his grandmother (Gemma Jones).
Best songwriter, a real friend, and partner in crime Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell) wins our hearts. He definitely shows his love for Elton and even though he fails to save him from himself he was still there. Oh and the sexy as hell but an asshole at heart John Reid (Richard Madden) is going to make you hate his character to the core. I have to highlight that only a great actor can make you feel all this hate and I hope Richard get at least a nomination for this role. Now, going back to the Taron John ( see what I did there) brings to this role more than his amazing vocals and I was surprised because his lasts film wasn’t that good. Here though he gives a spectacular performance with originality and I swear he has that good I saw Elton there so many times. Taron takes you in his roller coaster ride to the land of riches and fame making you suffer, shiver, feel pain and loneliness through it. But most importantly he takes you to a place where you have finally come to accept and love yourself. He definitely deserves more than tons of nominations for his role, he deserves an Oscar not sure the film will get one though as there are some technical issues.
Overall, this is a musical in which fan service is at the heart of it so don’t expect a rigid biopic. It is a film that reach it goals to lift off, overcome and survive in which Fletcher strikes with visual eye-candy, energetic and well-elaborated choreography, bright colors, feathers, highs and lows, love, broken heart, and outstanding glittery and designed with love costumes that the audience is going to love and remember for years.
No me gustan los musicales si estos no vienen de Disney, pero ROCKETMAN no es solo una de las mejores películas que he visto este año, es uno de los mejores musicales del año y debemos agradecerle esto a Elton John's El gran éxito, las increíbles voces de Taron Egerton y el entusiasmo de Fletcher por los musicales.
Taron brilla en esta película y nos muestra que es una amenaza para cualquier cara bonita en Hollywood, pero la verdadera estrella y a quien aplaudo es el Dexter Fletcher que entrega de toma en toma una magnífica obra maestra de narración que combina mágicamente lo visual, diseño de producción , coreografía y una narravita prominente.
Esta deslumbrante ópera rock está muy bien hecha y hace referencia a la historia del arte de la vida de Sir Elton John. A través de cuadro a cuadro, se muestra mucha creatividad e imaginación y mi parte favorita es cómo el director Fletcher hizo un excelente trabajo al mostrar cómo el tiempo, la fama, las drogas, el alcohol, las recetas medicas y la depresión se estaban apoderando de la vida de Elton sin bajar el moviento de la misma con subtítulos o transiciones incómodas.
Ahora, hablando de la sexualidad de Elton, esta película no tenía miedo de mostrar cómo lo descubrió y cómo se enamora por primera vez. La intensidad de las escenas puede tomarte por sorpresa, ya que son más fuertes de lo que estamos acostumbrados a ver, pero también fue retratado de una manera muy artística.
A medida que avanza la película, vemos cómo el abuso de sustancias, el corazón roto y la depresión llevaron a Elton al colapso y en realidad es tan mágico que te dará escalofríos.
El elenco es increíble y memorable. Estoy seguro de que una vez que la película alcance el segundo acto, odiarás al padre negligente (Steven Mackintosh) y a una persona absorta en sí misma y desmadreda (Bryce Dallas Howard) y tengo que mencionar que incluso si su edad no parece cambiar mucho pero no es tan notable, ya que la trama y los argumentos son tan sólidos y bien presentados. El mejor compositor, un verdadero amigo y socio en crimen Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell) gana nuestros corazones. Definitivamente muestra su amor por Elton y aunque no logra salvarlo de sí mismo, todavía estaba allí cuando lo mas lo necesitaba. Ah, y el sexy andante, pero un imbécil de corazón, John Reid (Richard Madden) hará que odies a su personaje hasta la médula. Tengo que destacar que solo un gran actor puede hacer sentir todo este odio por un personaje y espero que Richard obtenga al menos una nominación por este papel. Ahora, volviendo a Taron John (mira lo que hice allí) trae a este papel más que su increíble voz y me sorprendió porque su última película no fue tan buena.
Aquí, sin embargo, él ofrece una actuación espectacular con originalidad y les juro que vi a Elton tantas veces que me sorprendio. Taron te lleva en su montaña rusa a la tierra de la riqueza y la fama que te hace sufrir, temblar, sentir dolor y soledad a través de ella. Pero lo más importante es que te lleva a un lugar donde finalmente te aceptas y amas a ti mismo por lo que tienes y por quien eres en realidad.
Definitivamente merece más que un montón de nominaciones por su papel, se merece un Oscar.
En general, este es un musical en el que el servicio para los fans está en el centro de la misma, así que no esperes una biopic rígida. Es una película que alcanza sus objetivos para despegar, superar y sobrevivir, en la que Fletcher golpea con un atractivo visual, una coreografía enérgica y bien elaborada, colores brillantes, plumas, altos y bajos emocionales, amor, corazón roto y un brillo deslumbrante. Diseñado con trajes magnificos que el público amará y recordará durante años.
