Jamie Schulz delivers a very new empowering story for women that at the same time makes you grip. This a standalone from her series. Expertly combining modern, cowboys, western and slavery. Jamie ratchets up the suspense as she weaves of dystopia that crosses time. In addition, thrilling action, important issues as slavery, war, and abuse drawn story to nearer to an epic romance between Michelle.
We see, Jake and his best friend Bret and they were taken by a group of bandits. They become prisoners but one of them escape but with no good luck at all as he enters the word of slavery.
Jake is the main character and he goes through a lot as people did in that time. Topics like torture, rape, and abuse are displayed in this story and well that makes Jake struggle with the dire situation was in, the pressure and all he lived with Darla affects him at some point. Then he is owned by Michelle and things between them begin to change.
Emotionally and physically. He carries so much abuse and the relationship is complicated. He was having an inner fight as sometimes he forgets what happened to him. I mean he wanted to let and turn it into a striking beauty however, caged darkness and fury threaten to consume him.
This a book about trying to move on and let things behind but as chances approached Jake’s life. He was many times far from feeling and something I felt he was scared to open and be brutally abused. As the changes take hold and evolve, he doesn’t have to take a decision his buy by another woman; Angel. Angel is that character that no matter what she does, you end up loving her. She gives Jake another chance in life.
Overall, Schulz delivers a very imaginative story. A lot of madness, sacrifice, abuse, hope, and redemption plus so many sensitive topics.
