Book Review: Most Ardently

by

Susan Mesler-Evans

My thoughts:

A very sweet Adorable, touching, and incredibly sensitive re-telling.

Elisa Benitez is proud of who she is, from her bitingly sarcastic remarks, to her love of both pretty boys and pretty girls. If someone doesn’t like her, that’s their problem, and Elisa couldn’t care less. Particularly if that person is Darcy Fitzgerald, a snobby, socially awkward heiress with an attitude problem and more money than she knows what to do with. From the moment they meet, Elisa and Darcy are at each other’s throats -- which is a bit unfortunate, since Darcy’s best friend is dating Elisa’s sister. It quickly becomes clear that fate intends to throw the two of them together, whether they like it or not. As hers and Darcy’s lives become more and more entwined, Elisa’s once-dull world quickly spirals into chaos in this story of pride, prejudice, and finding love with the people you least expect.

Most Ardently is a Pride and Prejudice retelling starring Elisa, a Mexican-American fat bisexual, and Darcy, an Afro-American lesbian. This is the second book I read that is dedicated to the LGTB community. I was surprised as it is a long book but I devoured in 2 days.

As mentioned already about this book is a adorable, touching, incredibly sensitive, and such sweet re-telling from Pride and Prejudice but it also contains really hard scenes to read as there is sexual predator that goes for teen girls and it really breaks your heart to know those kind of men are out there collecting girls as trophies.

This way to modern from the original version as it is F/F and the tension and banter between the main characters are hilarious and awesome. As it is a modern version you might expect a lot of new things but the plot is exactly as the original one just a few twists. This version also includes a lot of character racial/ethnic diversity and one of our girls is a plus size girl. These girls come from hate to love relationships. You know what they say there is a fine line between in which you end up falling for the other one.

The only thing I didn't like was the clique about the Latin poor family. We, Latinos are always represented like poor people but there's a lot of Latin people who are rich or have a stable final situation.

Overall, it's a fun read and if you love the original version you are going to have fun reading this one.
